Flanked by David Mays, Lieutenant SRO Commander Denton Police Dept., DISD Safety and Security Director and Derek Bradford, SRO Sergeant Denton Police Dept. Denton-Lake Cities Rotary Club president dedicated our October 4th meeting to School Safety.
A Student Resource Officer, SRO, provides safety, security, mentorship, education, and prevention to DISD students, and has a dual role assisting both the city and the district. They conduct field trips, plan service projects for students, introduction classes to the different trades they pursue as a career, and also camping trips! Every middle and high school campus has at least one police officer assigned full-time.
A full-time officer is capable of responding within minutes. The safety of the students and the school staff is always their top priority. They have well-established safety protocols which they follow and practice on a routine basis.
